Overview

Data Warehouse Architects should have an excellent understanding of the various technical aspects associated with data warehousing including database engines, data design, extract/transform tools, presentation tools and technical infrastructure

General Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, design and implementation of entire architecture OR play a specialist role
  • Design of DW technology infrastructure across all technical environments: the development of applications and data architectures and technical design of technical architectures to meet the data and process needs of the business
  • Implementation, configuration and testing the technical architecture; review and participate in the testing of data design, tool design, data extract/transform,
  • Prepare detailed sizing and selection of technical components to implement the architecture
  • Supervise the technical aspect of the data warehouse
  • Provide thought leadership and guidance on all issues relating to Data Warehouse products and architectures 
  • BI Solution Architects will have responsibility for:

  • The architecting, sizing, design and implementation of complex end-to-end BI solutions
  • In a consultancy role, the definition and validation of client solution proposals and providing support to business development
  • Requirements

    There are ongoing requirements for Data Warehousing Consultants who can demonstrate:

  • Experience in a key technical role on at least one successful DW project
  • Experience in the planning, design and implementation of DW technical architectures
  • Familiarity with all aspects of data warehousing including database engines, data design, ETL (ie Extact/Transform/Load) tools, presentation  tools, data management tools, data cleansing tools and technical infrastructure
  • Data Architects, typically responsible for the various  ETL processes used throughout the enterprise (including the data warehouse) should in particular demonstrate extensive experience within data warehouse administration and design including the implementation of data quality and data cleansing rules. In addition, data architects will demonstrate expertise in designing data architecture and competence in conceptual, logical and physical database design. Ideally they will also demonstrate knowledge of dimensional modelling in addition to traditional entity modelling  knowledge of metadata design and associated protocols and technologies (such as CDIF, RDF and XML).
  • Data Modelling experience for Data Marts & Data Warehouses (for MOLAP and ROLAP solutions)
  • Practical experience of a variety of data mining and presentation tools including Business Objects, Holos & Microstrategy DSS).
  • Ideally have certification in the underlyiing DW technology components such as ETL and presentation tools
  • Experience of middleware tools, such as Neon, Active and MQ Integrator, can be useful as can be any C++ or JAVA development skills.
  • Other desirable experience includes experience of integrating DW with ERP and legacy systems; exposure to CRM, Supply Chain and other collaborative technologies; experience of physical database design and query optimisation (such as for DB2, Oracle and SQL Server); and capacity planning experience of the hardware infrastructure and network to support a DW implementation.
  • BI Solution Architects will ideally possess:

  • The ability to architect, size, design and implement complex end-to-end BI solutions based on an excellent knowledge and appreciation of BI technologies.
  • Knowledge and awareness of CRM BI methods, architectures and technologies including 3rd party CRM BI applications such as Clarify, Vality, Cognos,  Business Objects, ETI & DPROPR)
