Overview

The Network Architect delivers network solutions that may require the definition of new network architectures, tools and planning processes. The increasing importance of network architecture in todays’ Internet economy and the convergence of different technologies is creating a huge demand for a wide variety of talented network architects, either in a supply or end user capacity, to help design and build brand new network infrastructures. 

Role Responsibilities

  • Assess and capture diverse multilayer network requirements
  • Design and seek acceptance to network solutions
  • Define new architectures, planning processes and tools
  • Provide thought leadership, advice and guidance on issues relating to network architecture  
  • Play an active role in Business Development  and Customer Engagement Management (for consulting opportunities)
  • Vendor management)
  • At a senior level, network architects may be involved in providing board level strategy consulting on how to exploit new technologies such as VoIP.
  • Experience Indicators

    There are ongoing requirements for Network Architects who can demonstrate expertise in some of the following:

  • Design and implementation experience of complex network infrastructures
  • Ability to work across some of the various technologies such as IP, Data, DCN, Voice, SDH, Optical and WDM, Access and network management across he backbone, MERO and access layers
  • Experience of emerging technologies such as ATM, VoIP, VoMPLS, VoATM,  Frame Relay, xDSL , Cable and SSF.
  • Experience of the issues of QoS over IP infrastructures
  • Experience in the integration of Circuit Switched Telephony
  • For network applications architects, a knowledge of enterprise-wide telecommunications systems architectures (including billing, customer care, provisioning & mediation) and an appreciation of the capabilities of different data architectures
